KTSS petitions Chief Minister

A petition highlighting demands was submitted by members of the Thandan community, under the banner of the Kerala Thandan Service Society (KTSS), to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday.

The petition says that over eight lakh members of the community worked as traditional tree climbers, especially at coconut farms. M. Janardhanan, State president, said a compensation of Rs.5 lakh to the kin of those who died while engaged in work was the main demand. Those incapacitated in such accidents should be paid a compensation of Rs.3 lakh. — Special Correspondent
