Septuagenarian Pankajakshyamma said she was threatened with dire consequences by several people for petitioning the District Collector against the competitive pyrotechnics at the Puttingal Devi temple. She said miscreants had even thrown stones at her house.

Pankajakshyamma’s house is close to the site where the pyrotechnics were held. She said owing to her age, she could not bear the sound pollution caused by fireworks. “It hurts a lot,” she added.

Besides, they result in the walls of her house developing cracks and even concrete ceiling flaking off.

“I fear a threat to my life and property when pyrotechnics start,” she said.

It was on the basis of the complaint the Collector denied permission to the temple committee to conduct the fireworks display.

Her house was badly damaged in the explosion.
