Kodiyeri rubbishes statement

Says there was no proposal to make Mani the Chief Minister

March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - KANNUR:

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has termed absurd Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Pannian Ravindran’s statement that attempts were made to install Kerala Congress(M) leader and Finance Minister K.M. Mani as Chief Minister.

Mr. Balakrishnan told reporters here on Sunday that neither the CPI(M) nor the Left Democratic Front had discussed any such proposal. The disclosure that the move had been made to engineer Kerala Congress’ desertion from the United Democratic Front (UDF) and make its leader Mr. Mani the Chief Minister was absurd, he said.

Mr. Ravindran reportedly said at the CPI State conference that there were moves by the CPI(M) to bring Mr. Mani to the LDF camp by offering the Chief Minister’s post.

Mr. Balakrishnan paid a visit to the Special Sub Jail here on Sunday to meet James Mathew, MLA, who had been arrested in connection with the case of suicide of a school Headmaster at Taliparamba.

After the visit, Mr. Balakrishnan said the arrest was part of a plan to bar LDF MLAs from the Budget session of the Assembly next week.
