Kingpin of Periya Bank heist

The police on Saturday nabbed the kingpin of the bank heist in the North Malabar Gramin Bank (NMGB) branch at Periya near Kanhangad.

The police identified the arrested as Krishnamoorthy from Tamil Nadu. He was arrested in Kacheripalayam near Salem. Gold ornaments weighing five kg were seized from him. According to police, seven people were suspected to be involved in the robbery.

Gold ornaments valued at Rs. 4.5 lakh and cash totalling Rs. 6.75 lakh had been stolen from the bank on June 18. A special police team led by the Inspector General of Police (Kannur Range) Tomin J.

Thachankary had been investigating the bank robbery case.
