Father Martin Xavier Vazhachira of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), belonging to Pulinkunnu in Alappuzha, was found dead at Edinburgh in Scotland where he was doing PhD and working at a church, according to information available from the CMI authorities here. He was reported missing two days ago. The news of the death was conveyed to CMI representatives here on Saturday.

Father Martin had been in touch with his relatives at Pulinkunnu till Tuesday. His absence at the church in Scotland had led to a search at his residence by the police. His body was reportedly found near a beach. A post-mortem examination would be conducted after two days in Scotland, CMI Prior Varghese Kochuparambil of St. Sebastian’s Monastery, Pulinkunnu, told The Hindu . The information was conveyed from CMI representatives in Scotland to the Provincial here. Father Martin had stayed at the monastery here for a few years earlier. He had received priesthood in 2013 and had been assistant vicar at a church at Chethipuzha till July last when he left for Scotland.
