Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that the Kerala Police have intensified their anti-Maoist operations in seven northern districts following reports of the presence of operatives of the armed Left radical outfits.
Speaking to newspersons at the venue of a two-day conference of District Collectors and department heads here on Tuesday, the Minister said that three companies of specially trained armed police had been deployed in the areas. The neighbourhood watch scheme of the police would be extended to all parts of the State, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.
The Minister said that money-lending and illegal sand-mining would be dealt with seriously.
Communal amity would be preserved at all costs in the State.
Surveillance
The Home Minister said that more roads in the State would come under police camera surveillance. Accident reduction would be accorded high priority, he said.
District Collectors had been asked to identify locations to establish 10 more coastal police stations. Funds had been allocated to construct 74 station houses for offices which were now functioning in rented premises, the Minister said.
Chief Secretary E. K. Bharath Bhushan asked the District Collectors to intensify tax collection and expedite revenue recovery procedures.
