The Kerala Police will launch its new Facebook and Twitter accounts on Monday as part of using social media platforms to maintain law and order and check crime.

Minister for Home Ramesh Chennithala will launch the new Facebook page and Twitter account at a function at the Police Training College auditorium here on Monday.

More features had been added to the Facebook page launched on an experimental basis in October. Photographs and videos on crimes could be uploaded and the public could share details of crime with the police. People would get information on various services offered by the police.

Through the Twitter account, users would be able to share messages and links of matters of general interest. Suggestions on law and order and crime could be shared with the police, a press release issued here said.

State Police Chief K.S. Balasubramanian said this would help the police use social media in law enforcement. The Facebook page and Twitter account would be fine-tuned as per the feedback from citizens, he added.
