The Kannur international airport, State’s second greenfield airport coming up in public-private partnership mode at Mattannur, has obtained the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) crucial three-letter location code.

The July 25 communication from IATA granting the code ‘CNN’ for the fourth international airport of the State has landed in the office of Kannur International Airport Ltd.

The airport has already received the other crucial ICAO four-letter code - VOKN.

Jeffrey Ross, Assistant Manager, Coding and MITA, in the communication said all the requirements for the assignment of a location code had been met by KIAL. “In accordance with IATA Passenger Services Conference Resolution 763, we have assigned you the above-mentioned Location Code.”

The assignment of the code has been registered in the IATA database and will be communicated to the industry through the monthly Airline Coding Amendment Bulletin. The code assigned can be used by any industry partner with business to this location.
