INTUC for resuming KCCPL operation

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KASARAGOD:

As the functioning of Kerala Clays and Ceramics Products Ltd. (KCCPL) at Karinthalam, here, continues to be hit by an agitation against unbridled laterite mining operations, the INTUC has expressed its solidarity with other trade unions seeking an early resumption of the company’s operations. The INTUC assertion comes amid what it called “misleading” reports from certain corners that the pro-Congress trade union wing was not supporting efforts to resume the functioning of the public sector unit.

People's protests feared

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, INTUC State vice-president K.P. Thambi Kannadan said that the laterite mining unit had been rendered idle fearing widespread protest by the local residents who were concerned about environmental issues in case the mining operation resumed.

Mr. Kannadan expressed the hope that the government would sort out the issue to resume the operations at the earliest.
