A group of eminent scientists from the country as well as from the US will share valuable information and findings related to their researches in the area of computation biotechnology and bioinformatics among other things during a two-day Indo-US workshop on biocomputing organised by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) in association with the Indiana University Perdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), USA at the Taj Gateway here from Monday.
The event sponsored by Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), National Science Foundation (NSF), USA and the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India will be opened by the Minister of State for Human Resources Development and External Affairs E. Ahamed at 9 a.m.
To provide a synergic platform for researchers in Computer Science and Life Science disciplines to exchange their ideas and to promote future collaborations towards the development of improved and highly efficient Bioinformatics algorithms and tools is one of the key objectives of the workshop, said the organizers in a release issued here on Sunday.
The workshop will consist of a number of expert lectures by eminent researchers on various aspects of Biocomputing and Biotechnology such as Computer Aided Drug Discovery, Role of Bioinformatics in designing therapeutic peptides, Computational tools for Genome sequencing and analysis, Biomarker Discovery and Literature mining among other things, said the release. The deliberations in the workshop will pave the way to facilitate multidisciplinary research in the area of Bioinformatics, ultimately aimed at improving the quality of life, it added.
Keith Dunker from Indiana University School of Informatics, Thomas .E. Ferrin from the University of California, San Francisco, Mona Singh of Princeton University, Mathew J. Palakal and Lang Li both from IUPUI, Teresa M. Przytycka from National Center for Biotechnology Information, USA and Tarynn M. Witten from Virginia Commonwealth University are the invited speakers from the US for the event.

S Raghava (Head of Bioinformatics Centre, Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh), Pramod Wangikar (IIT Bombay), Ramesh Hariharan (Strand Life Sciences, Bangalore), Ashish Tendulkar (IIT Madras), Pawan K. Dhar (Symbiosis International University, Pune) are the Indian speakers. Prof. Mathew J. Palakal (IUPUI, USA), S. D Madhu Kumar, and G. K .Rajanikant of NIT are the organizing chairs of the workshop.
