100 flats to be constructed at six centres as part of 100-day action plan

: Minister for Transport A.K. Saseendran ‘has said that the State government will provide houses to all homeless families in five years.

Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on ‘Wayanad - achievements and aspirations’ here on Saturday, Mr. Saseendran said the government would construct as many as 100 flats at six centres in the State as a part of it. Though possession certificates would be given to the owners of the flats, sale of flats would not be allowed, the Minister said.

Special projects would be launched to address the issues of estate workers, especially workers in the hilly regions of the State, Mr. Saseendran said.

Model school

A model school would be set up with all modern facilities in each Assembly constituency, the Minister added. Mr. Saseendran said Wayanad could achieve sustainable development in tourism, dairy and farming sectors. While delivering the keynote address, T.P. Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, said there was huge potential for Information and Communication Technology-based deliverables, responsible tourism, and agribusiness in the district.

Being an agri-based district, organic farming and production of safe-to-eat products can be promoted in a big way in the district, Dr. Sethumadhavan added. Carbon-neutral project and organic production system can be explored for increasing exports from Wayanad, he said. The seminar was held in connection with the 100-day action programme of the State government.
