Disciplinary action will be taken against the nurses who took part in the “unlawful strike” in solidarity with the striking nurses at KVM Hospital under the banner of United Nurses Association (UNA), the Kerala Private Hospital Association (KPHA) has said.

The association accused the UNA of not complying with the High Court order that a notice should be submitted 15 days in advance before holding a Statewide strike. The association said lack of nurses, ‘seriously affected’ the working of hospitals as the managements couldn’t provide proper treatment to patients, including those in the emergency department.

Meanwhile, V.V. Haridas, Director, KVM Hospital, said the strike was without a valid reason and was illegal. “Our hospital is providing minimum wages to all our employees through Wage Protection Scheme (WPS) via the labour office. We provide benefits such as ESI and PF. The hospital is functioning in three shifts to provide 24-hour care to our patients,” he said.
