The Kerala High Court on Friday ordered the State Police Chief to ensure the security and safety of Sruthi, a woman from Kannur, and her parents who are allegedly facing threats from radical Islamic organisations after she was rescued from the alleged illegal custody of a man from the Muslim community who claimed to have married her.
The court passed the order on a petition filed by M. Rajan and his wife from Pariyaram in Kannur. According to them, the police produced their daughter before a magistrate court on June 21 after tracing her to the house of Anees Hameed. The police action came on their complaint alleging that Hameed had abducted, forcibly converted and married their daughter. The magistrate allowed her to go along with the petitioner in deference to her wishes.
Blackmailed
The petitioner said that their daughter was emotionally blackmailed by Hameed who pretended to be in love with her. In their petition, the parents said that Hameed had now filed a complaint before the Payyannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court alleging that the petitioners were detaining Sruthi. They said Hameed, with the help of some Muslim radical organisations, was threatening that their daughter would be taken to Syria or Yeman.
Mr. Rajan said that he had told the magistrate that he was unable to produce his daughter as she was emotionally and psychologically upset.
The court kept in abeyance the warrant issued by the magistrate.
