The complainant in the mobile-phone camera case, Rahul, who was admitted with injuries to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after he was alleged assaulted by Nadakkavu police personnel, was on Monday discharged from the hospital.

The case relates to the recovery of a mobile-phone camera from the women's toilet in a city hotel.

The State Human Rights Commission and the Kerala State Women's Commission have taken up separate cases. Sub-Inspector G. Sunil Kumar was placed under suspension in connection with the assault charge.

Nadakkavu Circle Inspector Jaison K. Abraham, who is investigating the case, on Monday moved a petition before the Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court seeking custody for two days of Akhil Jose, the accused in the case of placing the camera in the toilet. The Magistrate G. Mahesh will consider the affidavit on Tuesday.

The accused, who is in judicial custody, also moved a bail plea before the District Sessions Court. District judge M.P. Ismail will consider the petition on March 25.

In a related development, District Collector P.B. Salim issued a directive to City Commissioner of Police S. Sreejith to furnish a report whether the atmosphere was conducive to reopen the hotel. The Collector in his capacity as District Magistrate had ordered its closure considering the law and order problem in the area.
