Heavy rain continued to lash northern Kerala menacingly, crippling normal life in the district for the second day on Tuesday.
In view of the widespread rain and the weathermen forecasting heavy showers in the next two days, the administration has declared holiday for all schools in the district on Wednesday. However, colleges and professional educational institutions have been exempted from the holiday, said District Collector P. S. Muhammed Sagir.
The district experienced relentless rain all through the day. The rainfall received during the last 24 hours until 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday was 68 mm, official sources said.
Most rivers in the district are flooded. Low-level areas in parts of the district are inundated. And the rain shows no signs of receding.
The sea continues to be rough and people residing in coastal belts are facing imminent threat of sea erosion. Sea water has entered the Chembarika beach, causing a threat to a few houses.
