The Kerala High Court, on Thursday, wondered how Salim Raj, suspended gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, had managed to cough up huge amounts of money for land deals.

Justice Harun-Ul-Rashid made the oral observation that someone powerful seemed to be behind the civil police officer. The court allowed a petition by Prem Chand R. Nair of Thiruvananthapuram and others to make telephone service providers respondents when a case of land grab at Kadakampally in Thiruvananthapuram, in which Salim Raj is an accused, came up for hearing. The court orally observed that the money involved in the land grab came to Rs.250 crore.

The petitioners said their land records had been manipulated and fabricated at the instance of Salim Raj.
