The Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad, on Sunday, seized hashish oil — worth Rs.1 crore in the international market — from the premises of a house under construction at N.R. City near Rajakkad in Idukki district.
One person was arrested and another managed to escape, said a senior official of the squad.
The arrested was Rajakkad Thengumkuzhiyil Anil, 32. The official said the contraband item was found concealed in the instrument box of a motorcycle parked in the car porch of the house.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off.
The Narcotic Enforcement Squad had intensified raid in the high ranges in recent times after the Intelligence bureau alerted that large quantities of ganja and drugs were moved to the district from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka border, to be packed and resold in various places in the State. The official said the first information report showed that the drug was brought from Andhra Pradesh.
This was the third major seizure of a narcotic item from the high range areas of the district, after the seizure of 88 kg of ganja from Manjappara near Nedumkandam on January 12 and 80 kg of ganja from Chempakappara on January 17.
