Signalling an end to the long-standing wait of the people of Alappuzha, the New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express will have halts at the Alappuzha railway station from Tuesday.
Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal, who had repeatedly raised the demand with the Railways while he was a member of the Railway Consultative Committee and other Parliamentary committees, will be among those who will receive the Rajdhani Express when it arrives at the railway station at 6.15 a.m. on Tuesday.
Currently, there are only two Delhi-bound weekly trains that have stops at Alappuzha.
With halt provided for the Rajdhani Express, which will arrive thrice a week here, access to the coastal tourist spot is expected to become easier for tourists.
With backwater tourism gaining in popularity across the world and the boat race season, which will have the internationally acclaimed Nehru Trophy Boat Race in August, about to begin, the decision to have the Rajdhani Express halt here has received widespread public appreciation.
