This year's Haj camp, for pilgrims from the State in the government quota, will begin on October 20. The first Haj flight (of Saudi Arabian Airlines), carrying 300 pilgrims, will take off from Karipur International Airport, Kozhikode, at 12 noon on October 21.
The camp will last for 15 days, according to State Haj Committee Chairman P.T.A. Rahim. There will be two flights on all days, at 12 noon and 4 p.m. Pilgrims from Mahe, Lakshadweep and some parts of Karnataka will also use the Karipur airport.
Going by the current figures, 7,986 pilgrims, which includes the additional quota of 861, allowed by the Central Haj Committee, will be able to perform Haj in the government quota this year.
The State Haj Committee was expecting an allocation of 861 seats under the discretionary quota, Mr. Rahim said. The allocation was suspended by the Central Haj Committee following a court order. “Once it is released, we will allocate it to deserving candidates from the existing list,” Mr. Rahim said.
