A sacred ornament (‘Thiruvabharanam’) that had been reported missing from the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple since 1985 was on Friday recovered from Manikkinar, a well in the temple.

Workers found a 60 gm Nagapada Thali, studded with precious stones, while cleaning up the well. They found the ornament buried in sludge when they drained the water and removed small idols and Salagramams (sacred stones) kept in the well. Security in the temple was tightened as part of the clean-up of the well. Restrictions were imposed on darshan.

The missing sacred ornaments had triggered a controversy and the then Chief Minister K. Karunakaran drew a lot of flak from Oppositionparties and a section of the media.
