Government firm on extension of PSC rank lists

June 21, 2013 04:11 am | Updated 04:11 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the government is firm on its recommendation that the Public Service Commission (PSC) should extend the validity of its rank lists to four and a half years.

The Chief Minister told the media here on Thursday that the government had replied to the letter objecting to the recommendation. The government has no objection if the PSC does not extend the validity of its rank lists if new rank lists are ready. Otherwise, existing rank lists should be extended till new rank lists are published or to four and a half years, whichever is earlier.

Referring to the proposal to impose restrictions on entry of people into the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that if his visitors were screened, he would be able to meet only ten per cent of those who wished to meet him after completing the procedures. He was sure that the people would pardon him if some of the meetings happened to be with tainted persons, as he was open to interaction with the public. However, he would go by the consensus in the Cabinet on the proposed restrictions in the Secretariat. He would continue to meet people elsewhere.

Referring to a complaint from a Bangalore-based Keralite that he was cheated citing the name of the Chief Minister, he said that the complaint he had received had been immediately referred to the Director General of Police. However, the complainant was not cooperating with the police after they probed some other sides of the issue also. The complainant had now petitioned court seeking a special investigation.
