Gothra Vidya project to be expanded

Better education for tribal children in Wayanad

A meeting of peoples’ representatives and officials of departments held here on Wednesday decided to expand Gothra Vidya, a year-long project launched by Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Wayanad, to ensure better education to all tribal children in the district.

It decided to execute monitoring measures from planning to execution of the project. Steps would be taken to set up more basic amenities in tribal hamlets. A tribal teacher would be appointed to teach tribal children in their mother tongue and a mentor would ensure education to school dropouts. The Janamaithri police would help tribal children reach schools. District Collector Kesavendrakumar, O.R. Kelu and C.K. Saseendran, MLAs, district panchayat president T. Ushakumari and Deputy Director of Education C. Raghavan spoke.
