“In the coming Assembly elections, the people of Kerala should give the BJP a chance to serve the State,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah has said.
The people of Kerala are burdened with a surfeit of the Congress and Communists for too long. “The time has dawned in Kerala for a change from the alternate rule of the Congress and the Communists,” he said addressing a Reformation Convention organised by the State unit of his party at Cantonment Maidan here on Sunday afternoon.
Though the BJP did not gain even one seat from Kerala in the last Lok Sabha elections, the vote share for the party in the State was 21 per cent and that gave much hope.
The BJP gaining ground in Kerala is triggering frustration in Communists. “That is the reason they have now started celebrating Vinayaka Chaturthi and Sree Krishna Jayanti. The BJP is glad that we could make the Communists realise the right path though late,” he said.
He said Kerala was a resource-rich State with rich manpower. But the paradox is that it is one of the backward States in the country. “The reason for that is that the BJP has not come to power in the State.”
A large majority of the talent of Kerala is outside the State. If they are given the right opportunities in Kerala they can make valuable contributions to the State and the country, he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a crusade to attract the latest technology to the country from abroad so as to promote the ‘Make In India’ slogan, he added.
Mr. Shah arrived at the venue by paying floral tributes at the statue of reformation leader Ayyankali installed at the maidan. BJP leaders Ram Lal, O. Rajagopal, V. Muraleedharan, K. Surendran, and M.T. Ramesh were present. District president of the party M. Sunil presided.
