George ‘masterminded' MLA's resignation: VS

Leader of the Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan has accused Government Chief Whip P.C. George of masterminding the “resignation drama” of Neyyattinkara MLA R. Selvaraj ahead of the crucial March 18 byelection to the Piravom Assembly constituency.

Mr. George was instrumental in luring the CPI(M) MLA to resign from the post by offering him huge amount of money to destabilise the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) during its hectic campaign ahead of the Piravom bypoll, Mr. Achuthanandan said here on Saturday.

It would be wise to remind that a party like the CPI(M) cannot be destabilised by enticing an MLA to resign for monetary benefit. Mr. George had denied the charge saying Mr. Achuthanandan's “fancied imagination” was owing to his old age.

Mr. Achuthanandan was here to felicitate senior lawyer K. Purushothaman, who had represented Hosdurg (now Kanhangad) Assembly segment for two terms. The function is also scheduled to be attended by Assembly Speaker G. Karthikeyan.
