GCDA’s laser show to have novel theme

August 30, 2014 12:17 pm | Updated 12:17 pm IST - KOCHI:

A fairytale with the Queen of Arabian Sea emerging to take two child tourists on a joy ride along the historical and heritage-rich city would be the theme of Greater Cochin Development Authority’s international multimedia laser show to be inaugurated at Rajendra Maidan next month.

But that would be just a beginning going by script writer John Paul, the creative brain behind the novel project.

Talking at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Paul said that the initial work has to be moulded within a limited period of three months and funding restrictions.

“There can be more add-ons to the show in the next edition when the likes of singer K.J. Yesudas come on board. Nowhere has there been a finished feel to such works,” he said.

He said that the fairytale-like subject was chosen over a serious academic to keep the entertainment quotient high.

Elaborating on the efforts behind the show, Mr. Paul said a water screen would be created using a jet of water on which laser, fire, smoke, and visuals would all come alive.

Special arrangements were made at Navodaya studio for ensuring visual clarity of the show since shooting for a water screen is different from the television format.

Mr. John Paul said that a lot of graphic works had to be done and there was scope for more.

Film director Aashiq Abu who directed the show recollected that there were not many reference points for this kind of work in the country.

Actor Reema Kallingal has made the queen turn. The music for the show is composed by Bijibal to the lyrics of Santhosh Varma. Shyju Khalid has cranked the camera and costumes are by Sameera Saneesh. The show would be introduced by actor Mammootty.
