Kerala has sought the help of the Central government to address the absence of special equipment to deal with disasters like the explosion of gas from the tanker that met with a road accident at Karunagappally in Kollam district on Thursday.
An official release said the Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran had contacted the National Disaster Management Authority in this respect and sought advice on handling such accidents.
The release said a special team of the State Disaster Management Authority has been deputed to Karunagappally. The district authorities had been asked to intensify relief work.
It added that a team from the Indian Oil Corporation had reached Karunagappally for rescue operations on a request from the Secretary of the Authority.
