P. K. Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries and Urban Development, said on Sunday that the United Democratic Front government had finalised the technical know how to solve the garbage disposal issues in the urban areas of the State.
Speaking after inaugurating the completion of the first phase construction works of the Municipal bus terminal, at a cost of Rs.Rs.3.5 crore, here, Mr. Kunhalikutty said that if the municipal administrative bodies would take up the projects seriously, the present issues relating to the garbage disposal could be solved up to a certain extent.
They could set up the plant either by using own funds or on the basis of build, operate and transfer (BOT) arrangement, Mr. Kunhalikutty said.
The government was planning to implement a comprehensive project to speed up the works of the ongoing drinking water schemes in the State and the project would be implemented in two weeks.
Mr. Kunhalikutty assured all the financial assistance to set up a waste treatment plant in Kalpetta municipality.
Youth Affairs Minister P.K. Jayalakshmi inaugurated the shopping complex of the bus terminal. M.V. Shreyamskumar MLA presided.
The bus terminal is being constructed by the Chartered Engineering Company on the basis of BOT arrangement at a cost of Rs.24 crore.
