A local court at Payyannur here on Tuesday sent to police custody a couple arrested on August 18 on charge of resorting to forgery to usurp properties of a retired Deputy Registrar of Co-operatives at Taliparamba here. They had earlier been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the court.

K.V. Shylaja, a Payyannur-based lawyer, and her husband P. Krishna Kumar, who were arrested as prime suspects after their surrender before police, were sent to police custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Payyannur for eight days. The police said that the couple would be questioned and taken to places for collecting evidence.

Case charged

The police said the duo forged documents to grab ancestral properties worth crores of rupees of P. Balakrishnan, 80, after his death under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2011.

The police had earlier arrested Shylaja’s elder sister K.V. Janaki, 70, in the case. The documents were forged to present Janaki as Balakrishnan’s wife for making her the legal heir of the deceased.

Janaki had already confessed to the police that the marriage was fake.
