Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader E.T. Muhammed Basheer, MP, has called upon the youth and members of the Ithihadu Subbanil Mujahideen (ISM) to fight against superstitions and wrong customs in the Muslim community. Addressing the ISM youth conference here on Sunday, he said that religious leaders had the tradition of fighting against superstitions and wrong customs practiced earlier.
He said there were deliberate attempts to mislead people by using even modern science and technology. The youth should be vigilant against it, Mr. Basheer said.
Addressing the conference, chairperson of Kerala State Women's Development Corporation (KSWDC) Kamarunnisa Anwar said that those found guilty in the atrocities against women should be given the maximum punishment. Even those who were the protectors of our children were found exploiting and torturing them. This cannot be accepted in a civilized and progressive society, she said.
Ms. Anwar called upon women to come forward to fight against these dangerous trends of increasing atrocities against women and children.
Kerala Women’s Commission member Thulasi Sreekandan said that superstitions and decadent customs were being brought back into society. Women should come forward to fight against it, she said.
