The Federal Bank has contributed Rs. one lakh as part of its share towards rehabilitation package for the hundreds of endosulfan victims in the district.

Federal Bank Manager P. I. Sudhakaran handed over a cheque to the district Collector V. N. Jithendran at the Collectorate here on Tuesday, official sources said.

The Syndicate Bank and the Canara Bank had already contributed a matching amount towards the endeavour.

A district level banking review meeting held here had recently urged all the banks to contribute maximum amount to uplift the plight of the endosulfan victims.

The hapless victims had been reeling under life of perpetual misery and trauma owing to mysterious diseases said to have been caused by the indiscriminate aerial spraying of the deadly pesticide in the Plantation Corporation’s cashew estates in 11 panchayat limits in the district for over two decades.
