Ezhimala gets visitors from Bangladesh Navy

Visit as part of a four-day goodwill exchange programme

A delegation of Bangladesh Navy officers and cadets visited the Indian Naval Academy (INA) on a four-day goodwill exchange programme that coincided with the INS Ranvir’s port visit to Chittagong.

The four-day visit of three midshipmen and two officer cadets, led by Lieutenant Commander Mirza Rashadul and Lieutenant M. Merazul Islam Saimon of the Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA), started on July 26, a press release issued by the INA here said. During the visit, they were acquainted with training at the INA, it said. According to the INA, the aim of the visit was to build bridges of friendship between the two navies and exchange best practices. The visit also gave the INA staff an opportunity to learn and understand the training processes and philosophy that the BNA followed, it said. The visiting BNA cadets were accommodated in the Cadets Squadron and they also attended classes in the company of their INA counterparts with the objective of forming bonds of friendship.

INA officials said the visit of the BNA delegates coincided with the port visit of the Indian Navy fleet ship INS Ranvir based at the Eastern Naval Command at Vishakapatnam to Chittagong. The ship’s visit was aimed at increasing bilateral cooperation between the two navies. The ship was visited by not only the naval personnel of Bangladesh but school children as well, they said.

Widows honoured

The Navy honoured six widows of sailors who took part in the Royal Indian Navy (RIN) uprising in 1946 at a function held at the INA on July 29 as part of the initiative of the Navy to recognise the service of those RIN sailors who were expelled from service by the British after the revolt of 1946. Vice Admiral S.V. Bhokare, Commandant of the INA presented the cheques of ₹1 lakh each to the widows. Members of Veteran Sailors Forum, Fleetmeet (Kannur) were present. Admiral Mohanan Retd.) spoke about the recognition of the RIN sailors by the Indian Navy.Lieutenant Commofotr Inderjit Yadav was present.
