The collective effort of a group of teachers and students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Padinjarethara to imbue the younger generation with the spirit of patriotism has set a model for other schools in the State.

While the nation celebrates its 64th Independence Day, the students and teachers are distributing ‘Bharatheeyam,' an audio compact disc containing nine patriotic songs, which was released at a function held at the school on Thursday.

The songs have been written by six teachers of the school in four languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu and Arabic. Eight talented singers of Class VIII to X have rendered the songs.

A meeting of the School Resource Group held in June decided to do something special during the Independence Day celebrations, said P. Anand, music teacher at the school and the music director of the album.

We are distributing the CD in other schools in the district at a subsided price. The aim is to sensitize the younger generation to the significance of national integration through these songs, Headmistress P.M. Rosily said. “It was the first time in our lives that we stepped into a recording studio and most of us were nervous, but when the recording started we became familiar with it soon , M. Nikhila, a Class X student said.

We are planning to make a video album of these songs by next Republic Day, she added. They spent Rs.30,000 for the purpose and the amount was collected with the help of the Parent-Teachers Association.

The orchestra is by Biju Thomas and sound recording by Praphul George.
