Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kerala unit secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday alleged that cases had not been registered by the police against those behind the ‘ghar vapsi’ campaign in the State as part of the “understanding and tie-up reached between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.”
“This is a dangerous trend as the RSS has a definite agenda for Kerala. The Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) has no hesitation to be part of it,” Mr. Vijayan said after inaugurating the Youth Centre, the State committee office of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), near Palayam here.
Stating that cases had been registered in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar against those behind the campaign, he said Mr. Chandy had been saying that there was no need for registering cases even after the issue was taken up in the Lok Sabha and in a statement by the Union Home Minister.
The CPI(M) leader said that ‘ghar vapsi’ had taken place in Kollam, Haripad, Kayamkulam, and Kottayam and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) led it.
“Besides threat and pressure, offers were given to people and it cannot be encouraged in any way,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was toeing the line of the RSS as it had an upper hand in the BJP government. Mr. Modi was silent on ‘ghar vapsi’ and failed to make a statement in Parliament.
“It is a dangerous trend and everyone should see where the country is heading to. All those believing in secularism should be vigilant,” he said.
The VHP was trying to propagate its own version of Hinduism. The leader urged the DYFI to fight against such trends.
