Welcoming the decision of Janata Dal (United) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar to relinquish his Rajya Sabha membership, Communist Party of India (Marxist [CPI-M] State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has not shut its doors on the party.
At a news conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Balakrishnan said the decision of Mr. Veerendrakumar to resign his Rajya Sabha membership offered by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) had more political significance. “That the announcement of the resignation happened two days before the conclusion of UDF's Padayorukkam campaign revealed the serious differences of opinion within the coalition,” he said.
On the Left coalition’s willingness to accept the JD(U) into its fold, he said, “Let the JD(U) first prepare to join the LDF. Then the CPI(M) and the LDF leadership will take a decision.”
Relying to questions, he said the LDF had taken a firm stand that the JD(U) faction led by Mr. Veerendrakumar and the RSP should rethink about their decision to leave the LDF. “Both these parties had left the LDF opposing the Left policies. It is for them to decide whether to return or not,” he said.
