The CPI(M) Polit Bureau has constituted a six-member panel to go into party veteran and Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan’s complaints about the party State leadership.
The commission comprises party general secretary Prakash Karat and Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechuri, S. Ramachandran Pillai, Nirupam Sen, B.V. Raghavulu and A.K. Padmanabhan. Mr. Karat told reporters in New Delhi on Friday that no deadline had been set for the committee to submit its report.
Mr. Karat said the party inquiry into issues relating to the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case was ‘more or less completed’ He, however, refused to disclose details about the inquiry as the matter was before the Court. Mr. Achuthanandan’s personal staff members, who were expelled from the party, could not continue in their posts as they were appointed by the party, he said.
The CPI(M) general secretary said Mr. Achuthanandan would continue as Leader of the Opposition, but would not say anything more on the subject.
Mr. Achuthanandan and party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan returned to the State on Monday after the CPI(M) Polit Bureau and central committee meetings. But neither was prepared to comment on the developments in New Delhi over the past few days.
