CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M.A. Baby on Tuesday said a section of the people had drifted away from the party, which he said was responsible for the debacle the party faced in the country, particularly in West Bengal.
He was inaugurating the 66th P. Krishna Pillai commemorative meet held at the Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs’ Memorial at Valiya Chudukad here.
Mr. Baby said the party’s defeat in West Bengal was not only due to the alleged undemocratic practices but also to a significant loss in its support base.
Introspection“The time has come for introspection for the Left Front across the country. The coalition must examine all prevailing factors and make sincere attempts in regaining the lost trust of the public,” he said.
He also reiterated his view that the Communist parties must work together to keep communal forces at bay. Moreover, the contributions of all like-minded secular and progressive parties, organisations, and individuals would be crucial for the coalition, he said. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the function, CPI national executive member K.E. Ismail said the possibility of the unification of the Communist parties was not remote.
“The topic was being actively discussed by the public. Mr. Baby has commenced discussions on this subject. The parties concerned will be forced to take up the issue for discussion at some point of time. The CPI has been willing to discuss the possibility,” he said.
