Court seeks explanation from Ganesh Kumar

Recovery of elephant tusks from Mohanlal’s residence

September 28, 2012 11:38 am | Updated 11:38 am IST - Thrissur:

The Thrissur Vigilance Court on Thursday sought an explanation from Forest Minister Ganesh Kumar and forest officials for not taking action in a case in which elephant tusks were recovered from actor Mohanlal’s residence.

Petitioner Anil Kumar of Kottayam alleged that the Minister had intervened in the case and used his political influence to protect Mohanlal.

Chief Conservator of Forests, Thiruvanathapuram, Divisional Forest Officer, Malayatoor, Forest Secretary, and Minister Ganesh Kumar are the accused in the case.

Elephant tusks were recovered by Income Tax sleuths from the actor’s residence in July last year. The raid was held following reports that he had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The petitioner also alleged that though 19 tusks were recovered from the residence during the raid, only four were mentioned in the FIR. The case will be considered on November 1.
