Actor Dileep was allowed to perform the rites in connection with the death anniversary of his father on September 6.

Actor Dileep was allowed to perform the rites in connection with the death anniversary of his father on September 6.

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Angamaly on Saturday permitted actor Dileep to perform the rites in connection with the death anniversary of his father on September 6.

Considering a petition, the judge permitted the actor, an accused in a sexual assault on a female actor, to attend the rites on humanitarian grounds. Accordingly, the actor can leave the jail at 7 a.m. and perform the rites at Aluva Manalpuram and his residence nearby, before returning by 11.45 a.m.

The order stipulates the jail superintendent to make necessary arrangements to take the accused out of the jail. The petitioner has been directed not to use mobile phones while outside the jail or to misuse the permission in any manner.

During the hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed the petition citing that the High Court had denied bail to the petitioner only four days ago. Further, the prosecution sought to point out that the actor had not performed the annual rites of his father last year despite being at Nedupuzha, Thrissur, as part of film shooting.

Earlier in the day, the court extended the remand period of the actor to September 16. The actor was produced before the magistrate in the morning through videoconferencing.

Later in the evening, a few family members of Dileep, including his wife Kavya Madhavan, called on him at the sub-jail here and spent about 20 minutes at the visitor’s room. Earlier, filmmaker Nadirshah had come there to meet the actor.

Meanwhile, the Additional District Sessions Court on Saturday denied bail to Sunil Kumar, aka ‘Pulsar’ Suni, prime accused in the case. The petition was filed on the ground that the chargesheet had already been submitted against him and it might take a while before the court commences the trial proceedings in the case.

Counsel of Suni said they would now approach the High Court after the vacation with a bail plea.

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Angamaly had earlier denied bail to Pulsar Suni in the same case following a strong objection raised by the prosecution, which pointed out that the probe had not been completed in the case.

Meanwhile, official sources said the Special Investigation Team probing the case was likely to interrogate Kavya Madhavan once again in the wake of the latest findings suggesting to her links with Pulsar Suni. According to them, Suni had visited the office of the online apparel store run by Kavya at Kakkanad a day before his arrest.

Earlier, the SIT had examined the CCTV camera installed at this apparel firm and collected statements of the employees there.
