The United Democratic Front (UDF) manifesto for the forthcoming Corporation council elections, released here on Monday, promises implementation of development activities worth Rs. 10, 000 crores in the city.

Releasing the UDF manifesto at a press conference District Congress Committee (DCC) president V.S. Shivakumar said that if elected to power the UDF will take up a host of development activities to turn the state capital into a developed city with international facilities.

Implementation of the Thiruvananthapuram-Barcelona twin city project, development of 100 junctions in the city, time bound implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects, creation of local development funds for councillors, cleaning and de-silting of Parvathy Puthanar, Killiyar and Karamana rivers and turning the capital into an IT, education, health and tourism destination are some of the top priority initiatives mentioned in the manifesto.

“Revival of the Capital City Development Project, a project totally ignored by the last LDF-led Corporation, will also be among the top priority agendas of the UDF council. The last council had also failed in implementing the various Central Government sponsored schemes worth crores of rupees in a time bound manner,” Mr Shivakumar said.

He said that the UDF is confident of winning a clear majority in the coming elections. “The people of this city are fed up with the inefficiency and corruption which was the major features of the LDF led Corporation last time. They had failed to address even the basic issues of this city like drinking water shortage and good roads. What this city needs now is an efficient and committed local body,’’ he said.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee executive member Sharath Chandra Prasad and Muslim League district president A. Abbas Seth were also present at the press conference.
