Chennithala says AICC has instructed the State party unit not to wait till the last moment.
Ramesh Chennithala, president, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has said that the names of Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced well in advance.
Inaugurating a programme here on Thursday to mark the 129th anniversary of the Congress, Mr. Chennithala said the All India Congress Committee had instructed the State party unit not to wait till the last moment to name its candidates. The party’s election machinery would be operational with the holding of a KPCC joint meeting.
He said the United Democratic Front (UDF) would work together in the next general election. Those anticipating divisions in the front would be disappointed.
He said the Left Democratic Front had lost the faith of the people. The face of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) remained disfigured despite the attempts to give it a facelift at the recent party plenum.
Accusing the Sangh Parivar of erasing the secular values of the country by projecting Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP, he said the people of Kerala would not find common cause with the politics and slogans of Mr. Modi.
He said the Congress had realised the implications of its defeat in four States. Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s announcement that the party would make a course correction by making changes in its policies should be viewed in that backdrop.
Urging party workers to work in close contact with the people, he said the Aam Aadmi Party would be short-lived.
K. Surendran, president, District Congress Committee, presided over the function.
