Mahatma Gandhi University will name its prestigious academic complex, which will house various inter-disciplinary inter-university centres, after former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Making the announcement at a memorial meet organised by the university on Monday, Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian said the initiative was not only to express the affection the academic fraternity had for Kalam, but also to provide a continuous source of inspiration for students to chart new paths in their scholastic voyage. Kalam would be remembered for the seminal contributions he had made for creating new benchmarking in science and technology, besides his stint as an unassuming People’s President, Mr. Sebastian said.

The State launched VICTERS channel to realise his dream of a dedicated education channel to take knowledge to the rural areas, he said. The Rs.28.5-crore complex, in eight floors, will house the 14 inter-university interdisciplinary centres.
