The entrance test for admission to seats under the 15 per cent NRI quota in Cochin Medical College (CMC), Kalamassery, scheduled on August 11 has been postponed following talks between the Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges and the management here on Thursday.
The decision of the Cooperative Academy for Professional Education (CAPE) to entrust the Kerala Institute of Cooperative Management at Neyyar Dam in Thiruvananthapuram with the test had drawn flak from various quarters. The admission supervisory committee had made it clear on Monday that it will inquire into the allegations.
J. M. James, chairman of the admission supervisory committee, who held talks with Junaid Rahman, medical director, Cochin Medical College, and P.R. Geetha, Principal, said the new date would be announced later. He also spoke to S. Raveendran, Director, CAPE, who agreed to postpone the test. The test will now be held under the supervision of the committee.
Mr. James said the CAPE authorities should think whether to retain the agency, especially after doubts were raised about its expertise in conducting the entrance test.
V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Supreme Court judge, and critic M.K. Sanoo were among those who demanded transparency and fairness in the conduct of the entrance test.
Mr. James said the committee had received the details of the admission process done by the management of the Pariyaram Medical College on Thursday. But this does not include information on the admission made to seats under the NRI quota. The Cochin Medical College authorities also submitted the prospectus for admission on Thursday.
