The government will initiate stringent action against mass drills being conducted by organisations such as the Popular Front of India and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Mr. Vijayan said in reply to questions in the Assembly on Wednesday that the government would lend more teeth to the law, if needed, to curb such training in public places and temples. The government was aware that the RSS was conducting training using ‘danda’ (stick) on the premises of certain temples and schools and in public and open spaces. Such training without permission of the mandated authority is against the provisions of the Kerala Police Act. The District Magistrate reserves the authority to initiate action in such cases, he said.

Places of worship are meant for peacefully offering prayers for the faithful and the government was aware that such places were being used for such drills. The government would take action to end such sessions. Action would be initiated on specific complaints of government employees taking part in such activities.

The government had already taken action on RSS leader Mohan Bhagawat raising the tricolour at an aided school in Palakkad. Steps would be taken to ensure the confidentiality of those informing the police about such training sessions, he said.
