Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan on Wednesday denied that his observation, that communalism was growing in Christian and Muslim communities of the State were intended to appease majority communalism.
“My party was one that opposed Hindu communalism the most and made sacrifices to do that,” the Chief Minister said in reply to questions at Wednesday’s Cabinet briefing.
Mr. Achuthanandan added that the Congress was encouraging all types of communalism, especially majority communalism.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s observation about minority communalism, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala had said earlier that the Chief Minister was trying to please the BJP and the RSS. The CPI (M) was speaking about minority communalism to encourage majority communalism. From time to time, the party had catered to minority as well as majority communalism, Mr. Chennithala said.
