Patriarch Yousuf Younan to be chief guest at event to be held at Adoor

The 87th anniversary of the reunion of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church will be held at Mar Ivanios Nagar (Green Valley Convention Centre) at Adoor from September 19 to 21.

Addressing a press conference at Adoor on Tuesday, Cardinal Mar Baselius Cleemis Catholicos said that the three-day reunion meet would begin with a proclamation rally on September 19 afternoon.

The Cardinal said the Syrian Patriarch of the Antioch, Ignatius Yousuf Younan, would be chief guest at this year’s reunion meet.

Reception

A reception will be accorded to the Syrian Patriarch, the Cardinal, and various other dignitaries at Central Junction on September 19. The Cardinal will lead the consecration of the newly constructed Sacred Heart Church at Central Junction, later.

The Cardinal said cultural meet, clergy meet, laity meet, children’s meet, women’s meet, and youth convention would be held during the fete, besides a reunion proclamation rally.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla, Thomas Mar Koorilos, will

hoist the ceremonial flag at 7 p.m.

The Cardinal will be the chief celebrant of the Pontifical High Mass to be held on September 21 morning.

The Vatican Ambassador in India, Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, will deliver the keynote message.

Ordination

The episcopal ordination of Youhanon Kochuthundil Ramban and Geevarghese Kalayil Ramban as the new bishops of the Church will also be held on September 21.

The Cardinal said the Green Protocol would be observed during the fete.

He said the Church would also launch charity programmes to the tune of ₹1 crore in connection with the reunion anniversary.

Free dialysis for 1,000 poor patients and financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to 45 poor families in and around Adoor have also been included in the charity schemes.

Bishop Samuel Mar Ireneus, organising committee general convener; and Fr Geevarghese Nediyath, and Raju Mathew, conveners; were also present.
