Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Wednesday that he was not aware of the clearance granted by the government for the Sky City project in Kochi.
“Where is it?” Mr. Chandy asked when reporters drew his attention to the controversies surrounding the project. (The previous government had denied clearance for the project.) He asked reporters whether orders had been issued by the government granting clearance.
The Chief Minister justified the action against the police personnel who had put up posters supporting political party leaders. Publication of material by the police association required clearance from the department. “If anybody acts against the rule, action will be taken irrespective of the persons (political leaders) involved.”
He recalled that policemen in Changanassery had been suspended for displaying his poster during his last tenure as Chief Minister. He declined to be drawn into commenting on the politics behind the controversy over the action taken against the police officers in Kannur for putting up posters of Congress leader K. Sudhakaran.
Mr. Chandy said the government had received clear information on who had leaked the information on the letters written by the Special Branch of the police to service providers seeking the names and login details of certain persons whose e-mail IDs were obtained from a person under police observation. Action would be taken on receipt of the inquiry report, including registration of a criminal case for further investigation.
On the demand for CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry in the Marad case, the Chief Minister recalled that the previous government had sought a CBI investigation in the case. However, the CBI had taken a position against taking up the case for investigation.
He said that delay would be avoided in paying solatium to next of kin of farmers who had committed suicide in Wayanad district.
