January 23, 2015 06:26 pm | Updated 06:26 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has expressed grief over the death of King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

In a condolence message issued on Friday, the Chief Minister recalled that the Saudi king was a friend of Kerala. He showed special interest towards India, especially Keralites. He was instrumental in Saudi government relaxing the Nitaquat norms on a representation from the Union and Kerala governments.

Mr. Chandy noted that lakhs of Malayalees were earning their livelihood in Saudi Arabia for decades. They worked there with security and satisfaction. The broad-mindedness of the late king was behind the creation of such a conducive environment.
