The Chaliyamkode stretch of the State Highway here, where earth was removed in an indiscriminate and unscientific manner in a bid to reduce the sloppy terrain as part of reconstruction of the road, experienced further landslip on Wednesday forcing vehicular diversion.

The landslip that occurred around 3.30 p.m. also resulted in collapse of a lavatory attached to a house atop the hill while several buildings in the locality are under the threat of serious damage in the event of landslip triggered by incessant rain expected in the coming days.

The vehicles on the nationalised route were diverted through Deli locality.

The incident has triggered panic among residents atop the hill as three more houses are facing the grim prospects of a virtual collapse if rain picked up momentum in the coming days, sources here said.

The threat of landslips persist in the locality as the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP), which is undertaking the road renovation works, left the construction of concrete side walls incomplete.

The rain-triggered landslip could pose threat even to vehicles moving along the reconstructed road, sources here said.
