Denies his relocation to Thiruvananthapuram for the time-being

The CBI special court here on Thursday censured CPI(M) leader Karayi Rajan, an accused in the Fazal murder case, against violating the conditions set for granting his bail.

Considering a report filed by the CBI against Rajan, the court decided not to cancel his bail by invoking Section 439 (1) of Cr.PC. The court, however, decided not to allow his relocation to Thiruvananthapuram for the time-being.

Rajan, a member of the Kannur district panchayat, had obtained an exemption in bail condition for September 10 and 11 to attend a meeting of the local body.

However, it was found that Rajan had gone to Kannur on September 9 and the next day, he attended the State film award function at Thalassery which is located under the same police station limit where Fazal was murdered.

Based on the finding, the CBI approached the court seeking to cancel his bail and filed a report in this direction.

In a counter-statement, Rajan submitted before the court that he had gone to Kannur on September 9 as part of consulting a doctor for her daughter. Similarly, he visited the venue of the State film award distribution function only with the intention to meet his lawyer and did not influence with any witness by doing so.

The CBI court in 2014 had granted a bail to Rajan, seventh accused in the case, on the condition that he should not leave Ernakulam. A year later, it permitted him to enter Kannur district for filing nomination in the local body election.

In June this year, the CBI court approved Rajan’s plea to allow him to stay in Thiruvananthapuram considering that he was appointed proof-reader with a CPM-run publication company.
