A three-day programme celebrating the 50th death anniversary of freedom fighter M.P. Narayana Menon concluded at St. Mary’s College, Puthanangadi, on Saturday.

Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan inaugurated a series of seminars that called upon the historians to subject the freedom fighter nicknamed Mapila Menon to fresh reading. Calicut University Vice Chancellor K. Mohammed Basheer inaugurated the celebrations organised by the university’s History Department with Angadipuram Grama Panchayat and MP Narayana Menon Memorial Forum. Mr. Sreeramakrishnan gave away awards to the winners of an essay competition held on ‘MP Narayana Menon and secular society.’ The seminar underscored the need to set up a research centre to re-read the history of Menon’s period. —Staff Reporter
